An exchange of words, like cold, long glances, like midnight dances in spite of ourselves. It's the damn cold weather, and a day spent better than those back when friends could fight and the end didn't matter at all to us. We didn't have the vision to be what we imagined. And it all came crashing down all around us. Fell to the bottom and nobody found us. Laying in a hole as deep as we weren't, for all of the lessons we only ever half learned. Fill your lungs with the smoke and sorrow of a star-crossed lover, and hold it in, as if we didn't ever need to take another breath. Just breathe a long deep sigh of nothing like relief, and shake it off. It's not like it ever mattered in the first place. Wait just a minute don't walk away quite yet. Maybe this isn't the best it'll ever get. And if you don't have the time to sit with me, I guess I'll just wait around and see.
